“To glorify God by loving Him, loving people and making disciples of Jesus.”
That’s who we are and what we’re called to do; our vision in a nutshell.
If you’d like to drill down on it a little further, open the tab to learn more.
Jesus is the true and ultimate Leader of Northwest Church and everything we do flows down from Him.
Our vision begins with the great purpose of God—His own glory—for “from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.”— Romans 11:36
“To glorify God…”
From there, our vision is rooted in His Great Commandment and His Great Commission:
The Great Commandment — Matthew 22:37–39
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
This is the great and first commandment.
And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
“…by loving Him, loving people and…”
The Great Commission — Matthew 28:18–20
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
“…making disciples of Jesus.”
In shaping this vision, we weren’t trying to be clever, just faithful—rooted in the words and way of Jesus. God’s glory is paramount, love is the goal, and discipleship is one of the greatest needs in this generation.
7 things that keep us on track and make us, us:
The person and work of Jesus Christ is our foundation and focus. We desire to keep Him at the center and forefront of all that we do.
We desire to be a church marked by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. He empowers and leads us in the exaltation of Jesus, in unity and in love and in Truth.
We desire to be a church where God is glorified through the clear teaching and responsive obedience to His Word. For us, that means teaching verse by verse and chapter by chapter, through all sections of Scripture.
Our church must be a church that prays. Through prayer we develop a real relationship with God, truth shapes our hearts and direction is made clear.
We are passionate about advancing the kingdom of God in this generation. Therefore, we are committed to proclaiming the gospel with boldness and clarity with a view towards evangelism and discipleship.
Living generously is our response to our generous God, presenting all that we are to Him. We desire to love people in deed and in truth by sharing our gifts, time, and resources both locally and globally in the name of Jesus.
This is one of the primary ways we live out our values and grow as followers of Jesus. In Christ, we form meaningful relationships with one another, sharpen one another, and take ground for the Kingdom of God.
“Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.”
2 Timothy 1:13–14
We believe the entire Bible, Old and New Testaments, in the original autographs, to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, and inerrant Word of God. Therefore, the Bible is the highest doctrinal authority for Northwest Church.
We believe there is only one true and living God. This one divine being has eternally existed in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each member of the Trinity is equally God, sharing all the divine attributes and the same divine nature. Distinct in relationship and function, yet equal in power and glory. Each member of the Trinity thinks, acts, feels, speaks, and relates, because each is a person and not an impersonal force, infinitely perfect in holiness, truth, and love.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, and the second person of the Trinity. Truly God, He became truly man, having two distinct natures fully united in one person. He lived a perfect life among us, died on the cross for our sins, rose again to make us right with God, and will come again in glory and judgment.
We believe that God created us, both male and female, in His own image, and for His own glory. Therefore, we affirm that every human being from conception to death is to be recognized as equally human and worthy of dignity, value, respect and protection. We believe that all people are sinners by nature and choice, falling short of God’s standard and glory. Therefore, all people are by nature alienated from God, and are incapable of regaining a right relationship with Him through their own efforts.
We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way for the forgiveness of sin. We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Salvation cannot be earned, it is a gift God freely gives to anyone and everyone who believes.
We believe the Church is the body of people who have been saved by grace through faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The body of Christ, of which He is head, is unified and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We are called to organize under qualified leadership, observe the sacraments of baptism and communion, fulfill the great commandment and the great commission, in obedience to Scripture with the help of the Holy Spirit. We believe the Church exists to glorify God by loving Him, loving people, and making disciples of Jesus.
We believe baptism is meant to symbolically depict the believer’s real union to Christ in His death (being buried in the baptismal waters) and resurrection (being raised up out of the water) and is a volitional act done in obedience to Jesus. At Northwest Church, we baptize believers upon or following their conversion by immersion in water, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe this is what the New Testament calls for (Mt. 28, Ro. 6) and do not, therefore, baptize anyone who is unable to understand the significance of baptism and choose to be baptized as a result of that understanding.
We believe that our eternal destination of either heaven or hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost. Those who are saved unto the resurrection of life, and those who are lost unto the resurrection of judgment. We believe in the personal, physical, and visible return of Jesus Christ to the earth. He will consummate His Kingdom and we will proclaim the glory of God, who makes all things new.
